San Giorgio Maggiore
A popular site among photographers, this church is gloriously located on the island of San Giorgio. A masterpiece of Andrea Palladio, a famous Venetian architect – this was the first church he designed and he shows mastery of incorporating classical forms into contemporary buildings. It combines the sculptural detail of cornices, capitals, figures and niches that makes a great play of dark and light in the sunlight. This is truly one of Venice’s greatest architectural achievements. A must see.
