The origin of the Vienna Philharmonic is quite long, as it can be dated back to the late 1842. This was the time when Otto Nicolai decided to build the Philharmonische Academie, a democratic and realist group of musicians in an orchestra, not at all influenced by the government or any other organization. They make the group members vote out for any single important decision. This important and widely accepted policy is still enrooted in the orchestra’s operation today.

Sadly, when Nicolai’s influence was gone in 1847, the wonderful orchestra fell in danger of disbandment. They became almost inactive, until the faithful year of 1860 came. A great man, Carl Eckert, came to the rescue of the crumbling orchestra. He made sure that a glorious concert would be given by the group in the same year. In fact, because of his perseverance, the orchestra successfully conducted four applause-worthy concerts. After that, it was quite smooth sailing when it came to the frequent concerts.
