Sigmund Freud Haus
Many have heard and read the famous psychoanalyst – Sigmund Freud. However, few know that he was a resident of Vienna and that his research work started here, in this place. Sigmund Freud Haus Museum is built as a tribute to this mind hunter. Located in the apartment where Freud himself lived from 1891 to 1938, the museum offers to its visitors an insight on the works and origin of many Freudian theories.
The museum remains open from July to September from morning 9 am to evening 5 pm. The museum has a huge library, which showcases various photographs, letters, memorabilia and more related to the life of Sigmund Freud and his medical practice. Some of the first editions of his work and other corrected manuscripts make their way to the exhibition hall, which are revealed along with the works of many others famous psychoanalysts as well. Other important attraction of the Sigmund Freud Haus Museum is the library. Its library has a vast collection of all sorts of books on psychoanalysis, a dream of Anna Freud, Sigmund Freud’s daughter, who too spent her life here, researching on the lines of her father.
For those new to the place, a little disappointment might come their way, as the apartment is not furnished the way it used to be in the times of Freud. However, the study of Sigmund Freud has uncanny recollection of the past and is almost the way it was, when Sigmund Freud lived there. You can even locate the antiques and mementos, while also glimpsing the much famous velour hat and the walking stick with ivory handle. You can also visit the little bookshop that the museum offers to the visitors. This bookshop provides you with little mementos with Freud’s emblem or photos on them.
Sigmund Freud Haus Museum is a must see for all those interested in history, psychology or simply the local culture back in the times of Sigmund Freud. Go on. Have a mindful of sightings!
