Secession


Also known as the Union of Austrian Artists, or Vereigningung Bildender Kunstler Osterreichs, the Vienna Secession was formed in April 3, 1897 by a group of Austrian artists who resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists. Their first president was Rudolf von Alt. Some of the other artists who were known to be members of this society were Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffman, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Max Kurzweil and Otto Wagner among the others. Their exhibition house was built in 1898 in the vicinity of Karlsplatz. It was designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich. This exhibition building is now more commonly known as the Secession.


Today, the exhibition house is the home for the many collections of these famous artists. Every artist has a specific collection and room where their fans could view the artifacts. There are packages available depending on the tourist’s age and taste. The admission prices vary from different tour packages.


There is the so-called exhibition and Beethoven frieze where the entrance for adults is priced at 6 Euros, for a group with a minimum number of 8, the entrance is at 4 Euros, while the reduced rate for the students and senior citizens is at 3.50 Euros. The groups reduced have an entrance fee of 2.50 Euros. As for those who are after the exhibits only, the admission prices are as follows: 4 Euros for adults, 3 Euros for group, 3 Euros as the reduced rate for students and senior citizens and 2 Euros for the reduced group. The guided tours are on Saturdays at 3:00p.m and on Sundays at 11:00am. The extra charge per person is 1.50 Euros. For those by appointment, the price is 30 Euros while for school groups, 23 Euros. They also provide free admission to children up to 10 years old. The exhibition place can also be rented for special events, presentations and other celebrations.
