Palais Coburg
Palais Coburg is a remarkable palace situated in Vienna, Austria. The palace also goes by the name Palais-Saxe Coburg. It was accounted that the original owner of the palace is the princely Kohary family, a Hungarian noble family who is a part of the ruling House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
The palace was designed by architect Karl Schleps in 1839 based entirely on Neo-Classical style. Construction began in 1840 until 1845 by Duke Ferdinand atop the Brunbastei, which is an element of the Vienna city defenses during 1555. It was also labeled as the Spargelburg, which means “castle of asparagus”. This is due to the appearance of the central portico with lots of freestanding columns.
The palace was sold by the last owner, Princess Aurelia of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the 1970s. After massive and wide-ranging reconstruction for the purpose of renovating the former palace, Palais Coburg is now considered as a luxury hotel in Vienna.
