Vienna is probably the only major city in Europe, if not the world, that can claim to have vineyards within the cityborders.
You can find many heurigen in areas such as Grinzing, Heiligenstadt, Sievering or Mauer. A short tip: Some of the heurige popular with tourists are rarely frequented by locals for a variety of reasons. In case you are looking for places locals frequent, feel free to ask yourself around. People are usually very friendly and will offer you a variety of choices they believe to be superior places.
Heurigen in Sievering
Heurigen in Grinzing
During the main season busloads of tourists are being dropped in Grinzing and the masses storm into the Heurigen establishments located all around this cosy part of Döbling. In my opinion, your best bet is to avoid the big, shiny Heurigen places in Grinzing and settle for the smaller ones such as Heurigen Maly. The bigger ones mainly cater to tourists and that is fine - However, the number of local people will be very low as they prefer to hang around at other places for various reasons. The kitschy aspect that goes along with tourist attractions being one of them.
