Donauturm
Looking for one exciting experience the whole family will never forget? Then, you must head on to the Donauturm, the country’s prime space observatory. The Vienna Donauturm, also known in English as the Danube Tower, was created in 1964 by architect Hannes Lintl. Since it was built, it was already considered to be one of the most visited sites in Vienna. It stands tall in the middle of the Donaupark, which was built to host the horticultural fair in Vienna’s 22nd district, the Donaustadt which is near the northern bank of Danube. It is currently the tallest building in Vienna and the second tallest in the whole of Austria with a height of 252 meters. It has 776 steps that lead to its viewing platform which is at 150 above the ground. On the other hand, for those who do not wish to experience muscle pain, the platform can also be reached by two elevators which only take 35 seconds to climb up. The platform, aside from being a viewing site, also serves as a bungee jumping site during summer.
The most interesting part of this place is the fact that is actually has two revolving restaurants which offer varied views over the Austrian Capital. The revolution takes the platform either 26, 39 or 52 minutes per revolution. This tower does not only provide pleasurable views but is also the home for major antennas of the country’s finest cellular phone networks, private VHF radio stations and several important communication services. This tower, however, is not used for TV broadcasting because the major TV transmitter for the Vienna area is in
Kahlenberg.
The administrators of this tower have also included birthday packages for its clients! They can also arrange weddings and other celebrations in this part of Vienna. These packages attract more and more visitors each year.
