| I had read such fantastic reviews about the Galleria Borghese that it was on top of my priority list of visits. I had to reserve early enough and wait to be allotted a time slot, then wait in queue to dump our personal belongings like cameras, purses, umbrellas, etc. to finally get into the gallery. And to think that I had to dodge many beggars while I was walking through the park to the gallery. After all this when I did get to seeing the art that was displayed I must say that I was impressed, but I did not feel the awe that I read in the reviews and wondered if there was anything that I had missed out on. Some of the works by Bernini were really good and the great master paintings. The ceilings were exquisitely adorned with more of Vignette than Vireo. All the rooms were supplied with information cards in various languages and the audio guide was very informative too. The only flaw that I felt was that after seeing a couple for rooms I felt like everything was a repetition and maybe this was the reason that my concentration veered off track. Even the upper gallery was a bit too much for me. I felt it was more in the form of a studio and school like rather than an art gallery. In my opinion the Vatican museum and works or art were far better than this. I have realized that one has to see things for oneself and it’s not reviews or hear say that matter, as each person has his own likes and dislikes and each person has a different perspective through which he/she see things. So I would advise you to read my review but do not let that change your plans because of it. You may be very happy that you visited the gallery or maybe you will agree with my review and corroborate the same in yours. |
