Is it generally safe to swim in the beaches of Phuket?

I read news about a man who was swept away by huge wave and was drowned to death in Singapore just a few days ago. According to the article, the water level was just below his waist before it swept him away giving no sign at all. There are more people who were swept but this only poor man died. Is the huge wave a common sense at Patong beach lately? I am very worried now as we always like to play along the coastal area. My three year old daughter loves to run by the shore. Can anyone please advise me on this?

Beware of this if it is wet season and there is more tidal current during month of June. The waves are at its biggest and oceans have the strongest currents. We tried to rescue the man in Singapore but he failed to survive. I have read other news lately that there were 5 drowning happened in the coastal of Patong beach. You better take your eye focused to your kids and look for the rips before go dipping into the water. You may also go up at the front of Bangla Rd. as they have flagged areas and lifeguards around, though I am not sure of their schedule of duty. Hope this help   you and have a safe holiday ahead.

My boyfriend and I were swimming at Karon beach just late last week. The water level was just waist deep, until a huge wave came in from nowhere and shook us a bit. Luckily, we both used to grow up in the ocean so we were able to handle the situation. But never ever underestimate the force of the ocean especially during season of monsoon. With this, I thought of a swimming by the hotel’s pool is far better now and don’t take any chances with vast ocean waves.
