Any precautions I should take in case of a dengue outbreak in Phuket?

I have just been informed of the rising cases of dengue fever in Phuket. We are in Phuket right now for ten days with our 22month old daughter. I am reading so much about this stuff and it terrifies me a lot. Can I use RID or Aerogard for my frail daughter? What would other parents recommend me to? Are the swimming pools out there guaranteed safe? All information are welcome.

Deet is not recommended for kids under 2 months, otherwise, it would be fine. You can do a google search and find other options that are pediatric safely. 30% solution is the usual recommended application for kids’ skin, though weaker solutions have to be applied from time to time compared to other solutions.

Question on the safety of the swimming pools should be addressed clearly, as it did not define your particular concern, is it the water, the lifeguards, or the design. Either one, the answer varies from place to other. Waters in public pools are always criticized; just hope that the one you will have is treated enough with right chemicals to combat all the unwanted pollutants. Safety is always an issue everywhere you go. Be aware of broken tiles’ edges and ladders. There have been some accidents related to children’s death upon taken by the water suction pipe. Beware of that.

I used Aeroguard Tropical Strength for my daughter when she was 18month old only during our Bali visit. I only put them in her hands and legs, not on her face as she might get contact her eyes. It was perfectly fine for her. I am not sure about deet, while Rid is a bit of stronger solution for little kids. I have always used Aeroguard TS, you may try this one also.
