I have gotten to know more than a few Phuket bar girls over the years and it seemed that the vast majority of these Phuket bar girls came from the Isaan region of Thailand which is basically the North East of Thailand. This is mainly farming country and due to the high unemployment and a lot of poverty many of the young ladies from Isaan have opted for working in the bars in Phuket and Pattaya which allows them to send some money home and possibly marry a foreigner who can offer them a better life.
