Why do Thai people love the King?

That's actually a pretty good question as I was wondering the same thing when I first moved to Thailand. Royalty around the world is often made fun of by their own people however this is most certainly not the case in Thailand. Thai people love their King and respect him greatly. There are even laws in place which forbid people to speak badly about the King and people have been known to get arrested. A Swiss guy for example defaced some pictures of the King and he spend time in Jail before the Thai King gave him a Royal Thai pardon but he did end up getting deported.

Thai people see the Thai King like a father figure and believe that he loves all the Thai people as well. Whenever there is a crisis in the country then many Thai people including politicians and the military turn to him for advice and guidance.
