Thailand Holiday Villa Rentals

Has anyone got experience of renting a Thailand villas for their holiday instead of staying in a hotel or resort? We like the idea of having our own place for privacy  and having our own kitchen as we are keen amateur cooks, and also want to get away from the crowds. Any ideas?

Well, renting a Thailand villa for your holiday (these are known as vacation rentals in the USA) is certainly an option nowadays, and there is a good choice available.

Like you, many people want a more authentic experience than that offered by a hotel, and also look for particular facilities - a full kitchen, a private swimming pool, an in-house chef or free laundry services etc. The good news is that even one bedroom villas can be very competitive when compared with hotels, and for families or friends the choice of a villa in Thailand is definitely one that offers value for money when compared with a resort stay.

When it comes to making your choice, you could start narrowing things down by deciding:
a) which region of Thailand do I want to experience? (the hills of the North near Chiang Mai, or the beach in the South in Phuket, for example)
b) when do I plan to travel? (check out weather patterns not just for the country as a whole but for the region itself, as these vary considerably)
c) do I want a villa in a resort or a truly independent property? (a villa that is part of a hotel is generally that resort's prime inventory and allows you to use the hotel's facilities; a standalone villa in Thailand offers you the greatest independence and a more authentic Thailand experience).

As you want to get away from the crowds you could try Gecko Villa at http://www.geckovilla.com  or Green Gecko at http://www.thaivillarent.com  in the North-East, in Udon Thani province. They both have a private swimming pool, a tranquil rural location, and exude authenticity  and are definitely away from the touts and crowds! They offer full board holidays and are also happy to teach you how to cook Thai food.

You can also review a good selection of recommended Thailand holiday villas at http://www.thailandholidayhouse.com or check out their weather page for details on which season is the best for visiting a particular region.

Finally if you arrive via Bangkok your choices for onward flights to your chosen destination is also much better nowadays than in the past, with inexpensive flights within Thailand available online from Air Asia, Nok Air, FlyOrient Thai and more.

Wherever you choose, enjoy the cooking and get ready for a lot of spice!
